Sonia de Grandmaison joins Levis Auctions as associate

Calgary - Doug Levis of Levis Fine Art Auctions has recently announced the appointment of Sonia de Grandmaison as an Associate to the firm effective March 1, 2007. Her duties will include assisting Levis Auctions with all aspects of their live and online auctions, appraisals for the purpose of insurance or disposition, art storage and consulting to the art industry.
Sonia de Grandmaison is the daughter of Canadian Artist Nicholas de Grandmaison. She has been in the art business for thirty five years and is a native of Calgary, Alberta. She opened her first gallery in Calgary in 1968 which specialized in Canadian and International graphics.
From 1974 to 1978 she coordinated several exhibitions of the works of Nicholas de Grandmaison as well as doing extensive research on the artist’s archival material. She initiated and facilitated the subsequent sale of one hundred portraits of Plains Indians to the Bank of Montreal in 1978.
Over the last year, she has been engaged in more research on the life, works and history of Nicholas de Grandmaison for a new upcoming publication on the artist Drawn from the Past – The Portraits and Practice of Nicholas de Grandmaison authored by Gordon Snyder.
